Sniff, sniff. I can't believe I'm this sad about a comic.

For Better or For Worse ended today (click on the headline to read it on the official site). What's funny is how sad I am about it. I grew up with For Better or for Worse. I don't remember the years when the kids were little, but I remember when Farley died, trying to save April from drowning and I bawled my eyes out. I remember their acceptance of Lawrence who "came out" to his friends and family not too far off the timing my brother did.
I always related to Michael's teasing of Elizabeth way into their adult years (gosh, you have no idea how much my brother's are like that).
The last few years as the kids have been growing and the parents were looking to downsize, I related to their struggles since I've watched my parents and friends parents go through that transition. I watched as Elizabeth picked bad guy after mediocre guy and wondered who she'd end up with.
I think this comic is a tribute to life. The storytelling and the drawing is amazing and I really hope that I get as sucked in to Lynn Johnson's follow up (prequel if you will) as much as I did this one.
Good luck Lynn! I feel like this is an "end of an era" but hopefully a new one will begin for you and for us as readers!

I'm sad too!!!!
I've always so admired the drawing, the story telling, and feel like all the characters are my friends.
I'm so glad to know she is going to keep going with a new story!
Thanks so much for posting this...and for visiting my blog with the strange Burner Bag on it, too... ;-)
I used to read this strip years ago. Today Steve suggested I read it, not even knowing I used to read it, but because he knows I like this kind of "Six Feet Under" closure. Even though I've been so out of touch with it, reading the final one kind of put a lump in my throat!
These characters have always been so 'real' to me, as if drawn from life itself. I'm glad to see Lynn plans to start something new...can't wait to see what she has in store!
When I realized we were moving to a place so remote that no newspapers would deliver to us, I really felt sad about not seeing "For Better..." every day. Not much else bothered me about losing my daily rag, but that did. I looked around online to see if I could RSS it, but never found it. Knowing that it starts all over from the beginning is really cool. Will try to catch that. It's just about the only comic I cared about, that and the political single-framers. Good for Lyn to get them royalties, hope she rakes 'em in for a long time.
I bawled when I first read that she was going to retire the comic a few years ago. I've grown into an adult reading For Better or For Worse. The other day I picked up The Star and saw an old comic, from ages ago when Michael was still a boy. Made me feel sad to know the story isn't continuing. I never got to read her last one, will go to the site to see it.
