Photos of the stocking and Fiber Fantasies (another CQ'er)

Ok, so - such as they are...we REALLY need a digital camera for Christmas...here are the pictures of my Christmas stocking for Matey Moo!

It's still in progress and you can't see much detail...actually these pictures are pretty bad (shhh, don't tell my husband, he took them! :-) ) but at least you can see I'm working! I'll try to replace them with better pictures later....I wonder if the stocking would fit on the scanner.....hmmmm....
At any rate, check out Margaret's fiber fantasies - she said she's neglected the blog a bit but there are some fantastic pictures there! It's great to see more CQ work and her specialty is beading....great beading embellishment....looks like she's going to have a book out too...love to have an update when it's available! :-)

Tangled Threads - one of my favorite blogs

Maureen at Tangled Threads does some of the most beautiful work! Her current dragon block is just fabulous. It's really wonderful to be able to "hook up" with more experienced crazy quilters out there.
Her post on embossing velvet has me working on a new project. I think I'm going to do a needlework geisha with an embossed velvet border. I will post pictures when I get a little farther along with it. Speaking of pictures I think I'll be posting again today with pictures of Matey Moo's stocking in progress. I think it's a bit "junky" looking, but HECK, it's Christmas! He loves it too...he keeps pointing to the stars, so I guess it's a hit!

Sewdolls's Crazy quilt museum - great eye candy!

If you're looking for ideas for CrazyQuilts - there are some great embroidery pieces and some great historical quilts as well as her own quilt.

Thanksgiving, Matey Moo's Stocking and Aunt Martha's Patterns

Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone. I planned on writing some yesterday, but the day got hectic and so no writing. I did manage to work on Matey Moo's Stocking (I really need to post more pictures) and I think I'll have it done by the end of the weekend...we'll see!

For cool sites, I found these: Aunt Martha's Patterns. I'm really into these old embroidery patterns right now. I can think of a lot of cute things to do with them. I really need to work on a quilt for Missy C's bed, but I think that's an "after the holidays" project.

Trade shows without leaving your home!

I thought this was a pretty cool idea...The Needlework Show is a vendor tradeshow you can do online! Cool idea, eh? Especially for those of you who are out in the "wilds"....or just don't want to drive! :-)

Princess Party Pictures!!

Well, I finally got the pictures of "princess Missy C" and her birthday friends up!

So, I'm her mother and completely biased, but I really do think she's cute! The girls were adorable and the party was a total success!

So, today my inlaws have arrived from Australia and my mother in law came bringing more cool fabric and neat books and magazines....hmm, don't need another project, but some of them look really wonderful! :-) I have been a bit slack about posting projects, but maybe this afternoon I'll post some finished ones and some WIP's I have going.

Crazy Quilts, DMOZ and other Sunday musings

I'm trying to clean up a lot of loose ends today and one of them is to let people know that I am the new DMOZ editor (open directory project) for the Crazy Quilt catagory. I'm looking for lots of cool new submissions, so please "add a URL" if you see something that's missing.
Speaking of which, I found this site which has another historical look at a family's crazy quilts. There are photos of the quilt and I think Julie does a fantastic job of trying to trace who everyone is. I love the internet and it's capacity to share wonderful items like this. HOpefully she'll make more connections when other's see it....maybe some folks out there who remember who all the people are. At any rate, the quilts are are really wonderful!

UGH! Too much to do....too little time

I'm still digging out from my Crazy quilting group meeting on Saturday and "Princess Missy C's" royal 4th birthday on Sunday. My inlaws arrive from Australia on Saturday afternoon, so it's a busy, busy week.

However, in discussing Jennifer Chiaverini's books at our book club a few weeks ago, we got talking about this site: Facts vs. Myths About America's Quilting Past. There are some interesting insights into the "Myths" we have about quilting throughout American history. It's some good reading.

I'm itching to start a new project. I was reading about embossing velvet on Tangled Threads (which seems to not be working for some reason - Blogger must be having issues this morning) and now have a hankering to do an asian border on maybe a painted piece embellished with embroidery and beads.....hmmmm.....vision forming.

My Christmas stocking is off with Leslie having some machine embroidery added to it! Hooray, maybe I'll actually finish it! Okay, off to tidy the house and the back to work! ;-)

2nd Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters meeting!!

So, today was the 2nd EVER meeting of the Rocky Mountain Crazy quilters group....it's SO fun to share this "addiction" with others! I really enjoy their varied backgrounds and interests and the stuff....WOW, I am in Awe!! I can't wait to have a show and to show some of these members talents to others. It's just awesome!!
All of us are so full of ideas and exuberance, it's just a heap of fun! I can't wait to see what this group will become! Anyway, we're 11 members strong with only networking online and word of mouth, so that's not TOO bad!!!!

Ok, off to eat and fondle embroidery thread that Antonia brought me....REAL vintage silk (oooo, ahhhhhh) - only those of you with the same addiction can relate!!!

So, last night I gave my Mom the project I was working on for FOREVER....my grandmother's needlepoint project that she did the design on, but had never finished the background on. I finished it (heaps of BORING needlepoint) and made it into a pillow.

Here's a side view:

I was really really proud of it. The back fabric is a piece I found at an estate sale and loved on site. I'm glad I found such a perfect "home" for it. And the tapestry fabric around the design matches almost perfectly. I was amazed, because it's a really really odd color.
Anyway, fun to have it done and I think my Mom appreciated it.

Jennifer Chiaverini has a blog

If you aren't familiar with her, Jennifer Chiaverini writes the The Elm Creek Quilts Novels . These are great stories, and if you love quilting they are a lot of fun (even if you just like good friendship stories). She weaves in information about quilting in a lot of different settings, etc. including the Civil war underground railroad.
Anyway, I was looking at her website (hadn't been there in a while) and she now has a blog. You have to go to her site and then click on the menu item "weblog". It looks like it's new, but she's posted a picture by her son, etc. Plus, there's a weekly contest to win one of the elm creek quilt pins....kind of fun!

ON misidentification of the proper reference to the cat blogger

Ok, so my brother Mick has deemed me a complete nut (and he probably isn't wrong), instead my brother Scot, who is spending his days at Oxford University these days sent me the article. He's the one who is mostly responsible for my blogging addiction. Hmmm, so maybe my whole family is nutty....I'm not even going there!

Cat Blogging

Well, never one to miss a beat, my brother who is a professor in Maine sent me this article from the New York Times about Friday Cat blogging. My brother has a dry sense of humor and this sort of thing (being a frustrated cat lover himself - his wife has allergies) is right up his alley! :-) One blogger even has an essay today on "Cats Are Democrats"

So, in honor of Friday cat bloggers everywhere, I happen to have a picture of Harry our cat and our fish - Rex took this and I think it's pretty good:

Sort of a cat-vs-fish (who is luckily unreachable) presentation. Harry's pretty cute tho. He's a bit younger here, he's actually getting quite large these days.

Funny how kittens go through this phase where they look like an adolescent...kind of gangly and you can see the sleek cat they will be, but they aren't quite there.

Well, here's to cat blogging and the end of a stressful week.

Pop art...literally.

Most of you probably do not know that I was an art student....first in general art and then in graphic design. My deepest love was for Pop art...these pictures brought that all back to me. Literally.

I read about these on "art for housewives" a blog about all sorts of art and goings on...they seem to cover a lot of "recycled" art....but I liked the Pop aspect of these.

Also mentioned were these cool little purses....I can't find the pic now, but I think they came from here!
Anyway, all really cool - neat looking and neat ideas for using old stuff. Now, can you really say art is too expensive?

Back from a little break

I've taken a little "blogging break" - and now onto a bunch of Christmas projects and other ongoing issues. In one of the blogs I read all the time (I actually can't remember which one) I was led to this site: Nightstitcher.com - gosh, GORGEOUS quilts....love em! I adore the use of color. Be sure to click on the small images, because the pictures are huge and easier to study.
