Flower adventures! Go Wild Man!

These are done with my scanner (see how creative I get when I don't have my camera! ;-)):
I'm still working on a few close ups and I have no idea what I'll do with these, but they're fun to play with!
I love the colors! Looks sort of "animal-like" eh? I even sort of like that a bit of the polen has gotten on the scanner and spread around...looks almost like it blew off or something.
Matey Moo and I are watching "Madagascar" and so the "go wild" sounded pretty cute! More later...I might try printing these out on fabric. Maybe surrounded in satins?

I'm in a very "arty" mood today.

I missed doing anything creative for Self Portrait Tuesday, so I'm going to try to do some interesting journal pages today and maybe some things on the scanner.

I found out from my accountant yesterday that most digital cameras only last a year under constant use (can you believe that? UGH!) So, i'm not hopeful mine will be repaired, but I'm still going to look into it. Until then I guess I'll play with my new scanner (which has NOT been played with to the full extent!).

So, more later...I hope!

Crazy Quilting is sweeping the nation - or at least the Rocky Mountain Region!

Yesterday we had our first RMCQ meeting since handing out brochures at a local craft show...and we had 12 visitors and 10 new members! We are SO EXCITED!!!!! It seems there are lots of folks out there interested in Crazy Quilting and we have just begun to tap the market around here.

Calendar sales are continuing on the internet...thanks to all of you who have bought them and I'd LOVE it if you all let folks know if you're happy when they arrive...we still have some left! :-) This year was a small press run, so we're hoping to sell them all out early -ok, well maybe not early, next year we'll start this project a LOT earlier!

Most of the proceeds (there is a little that will go to helping our club run - web fees and such) are going to go to at least a full day (if not two day...still in the planning stages) visit from Judith Baker Montano! She lives here in Colorado and one of our members is friends with her, so we're hoping to have a wonderful visit from her! I was just looking at her schedule and it looks like you gals in Southern Australia are going to get a good visit from her! Maybe we'll all have to swap notes, eh? We're planning on having her for a lecture and a 6 hour class...should be fantastic!

Anyway, today is housework, and maybe some stitching late! I have a lot of links we want to add to our group website, and maybe I'll get around to that too!

BRRRRR! And not a whole lot going on

I can't even begin to tell you how cold it is! The weird thing is that on Tuesday it was 55 degrees and I wore my poncho to take Missy C to school! For those of you who follow the celcius standard that's about -14. UGH!

Life here has been pretty "ho hum"...calendar sales for the Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters have been brisk and I have a pile to get into the mail today. Like any small organization it's always a challenge to get everything done!

Tomorrow is our meeting and I'm teaching hand applique. Which is funny (can't you tell we're a small group? because I've taken one applique class! - not sure I'm qualified to teach! :-) )

However, I thought I'd do a little heart project and folks can do regular applique or reverse - the regular for people who have never tried hand applique and reverse as a variation for more advanced people. The other benefit is that I don't have to cut out 5000 fabric hearts tonight! I do need to make a couple of templates and take my freezer paper and go buy fabric and applique needles!

The kids are good, healthy and SLEPT THE WHOLE NIGHT last night. I know a couple of mothers with babies that think the "sleep through the night" thing is something you conqor and you're done forever, but kids who are sick, or have nightmares, etc, etc still get up at night. We seem to have definate ups and downs in this area!

Piecing Crazy Quilt Strips

Well I'm sure the grandparents are going through withdrawl since I don't have a handy digital camera (still on the fritz) so these are a few Rex took of the kids...there are a few more on flickr and I'll put them in his photo file (he still doesn't realize that I post his photos for all to see...silly boy..he's so shy about the whole thing!).

I like both of these photos a lot...kind of captures their personalities.
Speaking of personalities, Missy C did this picture for me and actually got to mail it from the post office on a field trip with her school...cool, eh? She was very excited. I thought it was a very nice picture and made me think of spring even though we finally have some snow on the ground and it's 15 degrees Farenheit here this morning!
This is the border for my Fairy Quilt....it was the first strips of CQ I ever pieced and I think piecing strips is really tough...hard to get a "crazy" look for it. Does anyone out there have better examples? I'd love to see some other ideas. In this case, I'm not unhappy...I was more going for the texture than anything...and considering all the embellishments (the flowers are going to pour out over the border) it should be fine.

Last night Rex and I went to the CHAC auction and my heart actually got bid on...which was cool! I think my friend Toni ended up with it, but she promised it wasn't a "mercy bid"! :-) We had a great time and won bids on two new pieces of art, but I have no idea how I'm going to take photos....maybe the webcam. I'll have to give it a try!

Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilting Calendar

Just a quick clarification...we will ship our Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilting calendar (http://www.crazy-quilts.com) to you gals in Australia (or Europe for that matter), it's just a bit more in postage (I think $4.50...it says on the website). I had a hard time figuring out how to do 2 different postage values via the paypal button, but I'll work on that. Otherwise, just email me or info@rmcq.org and I can just send you a paypal bill.

Self Portrait Tuesday

The theme for this month with Self Portrait Tuesday is "All of me". It's a great chance for me to play with my new scanner...and relive the best moments of my life...yeah, right!

Oddly this is from a "Golden Period" in my life, but one of those moments that makes you think about friendships and how people feel about you. It was a fund raising week at work (United Way I believe) and so many fund raising ideas were running around the office. I guess I was so beloved (????) that folks actually sold tickets for the right to throw a pie at me.

I still don't know how I feel about it. At the time I was semi flattered, really angry and ready to cry at the same time. I guess it was for a good cause.

Craft Festivals and lots of other news

I have no idea where to start on all of this, but the first thing is that I was at the Creative Festival all weekend and boy am I tired! It was SO fun, but also very tiring (how do folks do this all the time?)

The lovely and talented Helen Gibb was there with her silk ribbon (yes, I bought quite a bit!) and her DVD is fabulous! It's only $39,99 and frankly it's a total steal...there are 24 lessons (yes, I said 24 lessons on it)....if you have taken her classes or seen her on Carol Duvall on HGTV you'll know that's a total bargain! She's also a lovely Australian lady, so we chatted about Australia for a bit (she was proud of me for nabbing an Ozzie boy).

Our Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilting group handed out pamphlets and got 3 whole pages of interested new members. We are having a beginners class in March and it looks like it will be well attended.

Our big news is that we released (with much work and insanity on my part over the last week) a calendar of all of our member's work! It's late (yes, I know we're already a month into the year) because it's our first time. We had photos taken professionally and had to rush to get it out for this show.

We're hoping to at least sell a few to help us offset our year's club costs because Judith Baker Montano (who lives here in Colorado) has agreed to do a special class for our group at the end of August!

This is what I worked on the whole time (I had about 3 hours to myself), I'm back to working on my fairy from the FairyGoddess Mothers. It's a neat group and I started the quilt a LONG time ago.
This is what I'm working on now: the column is made out of the arm of an old glove....I want the entire thing to be covered in flowers and spill out over onto the border (which is a crazy quilt border), so I have a LOT of flowers to go. At the very bottom is the beginning of a spider web. I forgot how much I enjoy this quilt.
In other non-Crazy Quilting news from the show I also bought a pattern from Carol's Zoo...I have a bunch of baby gifts to make and her animals are adorable and frankly look really easy to put together (we'll see!).

Wow! I totally feel famous! Happy Valentines on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I signed my Flickr photos up for the creative commons license...which means as long as I get credit folks can use my images and I have to say I'm flattered! To be a Valentine, cool, eh?

Here's where I'll be this weekend!

Well if anyone is curious, here's where I'll be most of the weekend: The Creative Festival - Denver General. The Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters have a booth and I'm helping staff it, along with putting together some hand outs and hopefully an item which we're going to use for fundraising. I'll say more on this this weekend after we've premiered it at the show!

If you happen to be in the area, you should look us up!

This is what Rex and I are doing tonight....nothing. Watching "My Name is Earl" and I have about an hour left in me. I'm still working on my bra. No big secret...I just can't figure out how to scan it and I still haven't gotten my camera repaired (I hate that!).
