Things around the house I've been doing

I've been working on a lot of little things around the house...including these pillows (sorry about the bad photo...I'm using the webcam..ick!) but the fabric is here if you want to see a close up. The backs are just a black linen. They are nice and frankly pretty functional for the basement...which is nice.

The other additions have been some things shipped over by my inlaws, including this medicine chest . Isn't it fabulous? It's in what's now our office with our asian stuff (a variety of Korean and Japanese). This sits on top of my husband's Korean chest, which up until recently is about the only thing we had from his childhood around the house. I haven't filled up the chest yet, but can't you think of tons of things (sewing, beads, thread...the mind boggles!)!
This fabulous box was a cigarette box and I've transformed it into a sewing box. The spot in the center is perfect to put a few beads in...the box is great for all sorts of things. I made the pincushion that now fits where the ashtray used to go. The cool thing about this is it's nice enough it can sit out in the living room and I don't feel like I'm "junking it up" with my sewing things.

Christmas already?

Our next project for the Rocky Mountain Crazy quilters is going to be these:

We're going to use them at as a fundraiser at a show in a couple of months (these are not mine by the way, an example I think our member got from the pattern)....isn't it cool...can't you imagine it with LOTS more stuff on it? I'll try to get pictures of the ones we do at the meeting.

I'm working on my postcards today and two round robin blocks that should have been done 3 months ago...nothing like working on a schedule! Ha, ha, ha! (yep, Leslie, one of them is yours! LOL!). So, wish me luck. I'm trying to do this to break up the boredom of the web stuff I'm doing right now which is "type, type, type, type".

Craft, 50's blog, moving rooms and RIP Digital Camera!

I've been working on my "other" blog lately (thus the quiet chirping on this one). I started surfing a bit for other 50's house remodelers and there just don't seem to be many...however there are a LOT of folks ripping out 50's stuff..heathens! ;-) Anyway, I'm taking advantage of this and sprucing up that blog. I've also started a Flickr group for 50's house remodelers. I need to post a few more of my old photos...just haven't found the time.

So, the waiting is over. My digital camera is dead...or at least can pretty much be said to be. It was a $200 camera and it will cost $166 to fix it. ICK! So, I will have to make do with my webcam and scanner for a while. Maybe some real photos on disc or something. The camera repair guy suggested I buy a "real" camera (not in those words, but kind of). Anyway, I'm going to do a bit more research this time...apparently I'm not the first person to have this issue with my camera.

I totally reorganized all of my fabric today and sorted it a different way (hopefully so I can find things and also provide some scraps for the little mini class we're doing on postcards next RMCQ meeting). I'm ready to stitch up two pillow covers for the downstairs (cool kitty fabric) and make a pincushion for my new box (it was an old cigarette box...very cool...I'm going to rig up my webcam so I can take photos - I promise). Then I'm replacing my husbands jean jacket collar with some really cool tapestry, so I'm sewing, but it's all kind of practical stuff. Hopefully more pictures and info later this week!

Inherently funny words

Not much going on here if you exclude my Crazy Quilting meeting this weekend (which went VERY well!) and a HUGE box of cool stuff that just arrived from my inlaws in Australia (and still NO CAMERA!, I'm trying to work out how to photograph stuff with the webcam).

Anyway, in a search for the word "cow" on the internet (don't ask), I ran across this entry in Wikipedia on the Inherently funny word. Whether it makes you laugh or thing I thought it worth posting on the blog! :-)

Catching up with Friends!

You can tell you're working too hard when you find out friends are winning contests left and right! And the greatest kudos goes to Leslie who won the Great American Quilt Factory Bra Embellishment contest: Ocean's Blue Mystery Embellished Bra! GO LESLIE! Everyone go take a look!

If you want to offer a hearty congratulations (and the bra is gorgeous) go leave a comment on her blog entry about it!

My other friend Samantha won Honorable Mention for her Frieda Bra-Lo bra!

Wow! My friends ROCK! Ok, I have been working too hard and not stitching at all, but I've been working behind the scenes on the Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters and it seems we're inspiring more new members to create great stuff....Tina (you guys might remember her old posts) recieved an ovation at the meeting for finishing an entire crazy quilt in record time! It looks cozy and is really well done - go comment on her blog post about it (you have to go about 1/2 way down)! GO TINA! (and she started a new job as an advertising sales person at a local TV station so WOW! she's just totally kicking tushie!

I LOVE THE WEB!

While Louanne was sweetly looking for the instructions on my lazy daisies, look what Shar (I don't have a link or an email for you, so thank you, thank you!) found for me: Instructions for crazy daisy yarn winders! It's perfect...step by step instructions.
Now I have to figure out what to do with this? Could be fun tho...I'm even thinking my daughter might enjoy it. I'll let you all know the progress.
I got NO sewing done yesterday...the poor pillows and several other projects are just waiting downstairs for attention...probably not today (this is my work day) but maybe tomorrow I'll get to some projects.
I really need to quit sleeping (I know I've said this before!)

UPDATE: Another site came in (no directions except some general how it works info) from Caitlin - Thanks!

Can anyone help with instructions?

My Mother had this stuff lying around for FOREVER (nicely in a box)! I found directions on how to connect the flowers in an old 1950's magazine (I think it's going to be a baby gift, but not sure), but I can't seem to find any directions on how to use the lazy daisy...anyone have any? Or can you give me some?

The article in the old magazine showed it being used with really fluffy angora and I thought it might be cool to make the flowers out of a variety of the weird yarns we have available now...can't you picture purses or whatever made out of them?

Ultimate Purse, Bags, & Wallets Tutorials List

I have lots of work to do this weekend, but I'm going to do some stitching too...I have several crazy quilt blocks I have NO idea what to do with (how many throw pillows can you make?) and so I'm investigating making bags (which I might keep/sell/giveaway...not sure yet.

In my search I found this list: ULTIMATE PURSE, BAGS, & WALLETS TUTORIALS LIST on craftster (of course).
I'm also pondering joining the Tote-Along group, but haven't gotten that far yet.

I'll post the blocks I'm pondering changing into bags. Have any of you taken blocks and made bags? I'd love to see pictures!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

I found these totally cool ATC's at Julie's Journal - I thought they were a fantastic tribute to the author. The celebrated at my daughter's school yesterday and she wore her favorite Dr. Seuss shirt that her Dad made her.
I'm doing NOTHING creative right now...trying to put all of my energy into a few sites I'm working on and so afraid any other outlet would suck out my creativity...probably not true, but I'm trying it anyway! :-) I am going to throw together some 50's theme pillows this weekend with this print on them:

Even though this totally doesn't match stash Sunday I'm going to throw it up there because I've been such a LOSER about posting! Sorry everyone! I've been drooling over everyone else's stuff tho!
