Happy Birthday to me and Queen Elizabeth!

So, today is my 39th birthday and also happens to be the Queen of England's 80th! I met for a stitch session with the Rocky Mountain Crazy quilters last night and this morning is my neighborhood craft morning, so it's crafting all around! I have LOTS of things to finish, so hopefully I can knock off one or two things on my list!
I'll post more (photos and things) this afternoon!

Happy Spring!

Or Happy Easter...whichever you celebrate!

So, these pictures are taken with a $15 digital camera. Yep, you heard it right....$16.24 with tax...at Walgreens. There's no preview, so you have to just take, hope and load them up! Kind of like the "olden days" when we actually waited for things to be developed! Anyway, this is a vaguely arty photo of the flowers on our table...which I thought looked very springy. Not from our yard...yet, but it's in progress! Lots and lots of work to go on that first!

The kids went and looked for eggs today. Sadly they let all the older kids go first and there were kids with 20+ eggs and ours only got 2 each, but they actually don't like hard boiled eggs, so that's ok! They got TONS of candy (Matey Moo is bouncing off the walls!). Because of the "candy fest" our approach from the Easter bunny was to provide one gift each.

Rex was not pleased with my option for Matey Moo...an original star wars movie fighter - however, he was appeased when we added two bunnies to the cockpit...it made it more "Easter-y". Missy C got a puppy (stuffed, battery operated) that makes little puppy noises. It's cute.

Ok, no crafty photos this time...I need to probably scan most of those. I have postcards (am I supposed to keep those a secret because they are in a swap?) and my embellishments for the ornaments that we are using for fundraisers...more to do, I've just been exhausted!

Anyway, for the moment I've solved my immediate need to post photos and it's only $16. We'll see. I'm sure if I play around I can get better quality than these, but for experiments, they aren't horrible! :-) I have some "real" photos to post next post, but just thought I'd start to get caught up!

Dolls, stitching (or lack therof) and some newsy stuff.

Where does the time go seems to be my theme right now. Aren't these dolls cute? I really do think I may try to make one or two of them!

I wish I could say I was mired in a flurry of activity, but frankly it's been pretty lame. I've been finishing up some web jobs...starting some new ones and participating with the Rocky mountain Crazy Quilters (thanks to the Southern Cross Crazies, we have postponed the deadline on the postcard swap! Hooray!).

Last weekend we had a great Crazy Quilting meeting...the morning was a class on decorating Christmas ornaments that we are going to sell. I had fun doing some beading - when one is done I'll post a photo.

Then in the afternoon we worked on postcards. Everyone seemed to trade ideas, we all went out and got double sided fusible material for the inside (not going to use the brand name because we bought a knock-off!). I have to say, I wasn't that fond of it. It gave it a VERY flat look. Frankly if a postcard is going to be fabric, seems to me it should look like fabric, but I'm weird that way! :-)

I also found out our new (well they've been there almost a year now) neighbor has gone 1/2 time on her job to become an artist and so has a group she meets with that are all artists (she's a painter) and they are trying to network, encourage each other, etc! Also, a new gallery is opening up in one of our art districts dedicated to fiber art. SO....I think I may try to finish a few large pieces and see what happens.

We also spent yesterday working on our yard - I'm going to post to our Houseblog in a bit about this - so that took up some time.

We all seem to have a spring cold that just hangs on indefinately. For a few of us it's complicated with allergies, but whine, whine! Rex and I went out last night for his birthday and basically "bar-hopped". We went to a Mongolian restaurant..his choice and we both agreed kind of lame! Then we hit several bars around "LoDo" (the really cute name for our lower downtown) including my favorite jazz bar where more famous people have been than anywhere I know! However, in the end we both decided our own little trendy neighborhood had more to offer, so in the end, ended up back there.

On the craft/fiber art front, this morning should be better. I'm attending my first get together of a weekly neighborhood stitching group (any stitchin allowed). Childcare provided for a nominal fee, so it seems perfect. Rex is actually home today recuperating, but I figure he'd enjoy a little "family free" time, so I'll take the kids with me. In this neighborhood, the worst thing is that most other moms have babies, so be interesting to see if the kids are bored stiff in 20 mins!

Some links I found - and a bit of fame

Well this will be a long post (sorry about that) because I started a post on the 30th and never finished it...which goes to show how crazy things are around here right now. I'm in the middle of finishing several web jobs and starting a couple more. Which is good news, but with that and my other blog, I seem to neglect this one - spread too thin you think?

So, in my surfing around and emails from folks, I've found several cool new resources for information and resources. A group on Yahoo has been formed for CQ Newbies! It's seems like a fantastic place to ask questions and get acquainted with other folks who are just learning!

For more advanced folks, this class on Stumpwork! I have to admit I have admired Stumpwork and even tried a teeny itsy bit, but I was amazed when Linda actually finished this absolutely fantastic stumpwork sampler (which I've looked at, but couldn't imagine anyone actually FINISHING!!!)

For a bit of eye candy and inspiration, I found Caroline Hwang's site and the Studio Art Quilt Associates.

Surfing around broke my stitching break and I'm back into it, working on postcards for our swap with the Southern Cross Crazies...the theme is "my hometown" and I lived for the first 10 years of my life (although I was born in Cheyenne)in Leadville Colorado, which has a checkered mining history and is 10,000 feet above sea level (or 2 miles!). So, I'm going to do one or two on Cheyennne, but I also wanted to do these...This one is my favorite...I happened to find the "L" in my Mom's sewing stuff, and the rest just sort of fell together.

This layout is a bit rougher - not quite sure how to work with it. I may do something a bit more traditional with a little description over the fabric or something. Not sure yet. I'm having fun tho.

On top of all of this, I've been relaxing at night playing sims 2 - yep, I'm a geek. Something cleansing about micromanaging little computer people's lives. Oh, and my bit of fame is that my "other blog" (mentioned above) had a post featured on "Boingboing"...kind of huge in the geeky blogger community, so I've been working on a companion site so that I (and a few other friends I've found around the US can gather together up folks who are remodeling 50's houses.
