The Joys of being a mother - Part 2

I think my daughter is really bright, but if you've been reading my blog for a while, you'll know that a year and a half ago she cut her hair with my sharpest sewing scissors right before her first day of school. Know what's worse than that? She did it again!

Behold the job of "fix-it" job of our fabulous hairstylist who dug her out of the proverbial doghouse again - the "before" and "after:

You might be able to see in the picture on the right that she still has very very short bangs right in the middle in front, but with a week or two of growth, they'll look like "planned" peek-a-boo bangs. Very stylish (according to the hairstylists - who all thought she was a riot!). We did make her go to school for a week with the horrible haircut until I actually had a mother ask me if I cut her bangs (UGH! Can you imagine?). Anyway, she looks adorable again and amazingly didn't lose much length.

Creatively I'm on a new quest....I'm doing research and about to completely switch gears..wish me luck. I've been stuck and uninspired and I'm hoping this gets me off square one!

A backlog of posts!

Not sure I'll get to them today, but I finally worked out how to bookmark sites again with my "send to blogger" on my browser (this is a really handy skippy tool!) and so have been surfing and reading blogs, just not actually blogging (sigh!)

I was struck down with stupid Strep this week, really struck down...in bed, to the dr, the whole bit (which I almost never do!). So, I'm a ton better. Yesterday felt really like myself and except for a bit of a tender throat, I'm back to normal...whatever normal is!

I realized in all the shuffle that I didn't put up pictures of our Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters class last weekend. Here's some work of Claudinas.....her wool applique and underneat a silk ribbon embroidery she's going to teach next time:
Here are some of the gals working on the class (and thier own blocks). Rhonda Perry demonstrated a few stitches: the Palestrina, Feather Stitch Fan, Wheat Ear, and the Cretan. Even if you "know" a stitch, it's amazing how many ideas a group like that can come up with.
So far (cross your fingers for me) neither of the kids have strep (and are tired of me saying "is your throat sore?" a thousand times a day!). Here's Matey Moo trying on my sweatshirt...he's gotten big, but not big enough to fill out one of MY fat sweatshirts (ha, ha!).

I'm off to the store (afraid not a ton of stitching today!)....I'm having a Silpada party - I got a lot of compliments on the pieces Rex has surprised me with and I'm hoping people buy, buy, buy today and I get some free stuff...at least we'll have a great time...wine, cheese, sweets, makeup and jewelry....what could be better, eh?

PS: The hearts all sold at the Auction! Very exciting! We're definately doing that again next year! We always have a fun...it's quite the eclectic crowd!

Hearts for Auction - Chicano Humanities and Arts Council

The event is on Friday and we're in a bit of a rush to finish these. We had a great time and really had fun at the actual event last year.
My first entry: The Fabric of my Heart"

My second entry: "Wild Thing, You make my heart sing"

Rex's Heart: "Heart of Progress" - I think unique in his use of emulsion on the canvas.

Now they all just need hangers.

Spamantha, Creative Festival, and nail fun!

Yesterday was great! Missy C and I met Spamantha and her little girl at the Denver Creative festival! The girls had a BLAST! They got to color a block, got lipgloss at a Mary Kay booth and oooed and ahhhed over every last thing at the festival (including some sparkly things that Sam and I have vowed to put on a t-shirts!).
I picked up some fabulous lace! He doesn't have his large stuff (in my picture) on the website, but he said I can scan then and ask for more. He had fabulous collars, etc. The best part was the large lace (the stuff I bought) was only $4 a yard! Whee! I tried to hold back a little!
Then Missy C and I had a bit of time to burn (the boys went to the movies) and so we went and had our nails done! I love the flowers the girl did on Missy C's nails! All in all a great day!

Hopefully later today I'll have an update on my hearts! They need to be done today!

Oh, and my friend Creative Claudia is going to be teaching classes at Fancy Tiger (I believe making children's clothing!). So, I'll post updates when I know more!

NOTE: (for Arlee!) If you want the Red lace, send my picture to the guy at the website (he said they try to get back in 24 hours) and he can send it to you. They don't have any of the big laces on the website, but he has a ton of stuff he's happy to send! I told him I was going to scan mine so I could reorder!

Charity heart - 2nd year

Charity heart - 2nd year
Originally uploaded by rexandsharkey.

You may remember by charity heart from last year. This is the first of two for this year. I am planning on fairly well encrusting the heart (I may use some embroidery too!) and I have to have it done by the end of the week. The heart isn't attached, I may put it off center too...so many ideas.

I came up with a ton of cheesy titles "Be still my beading heart". "Wild thing, you make my heart sing". I'm sure there are more!

The second heart will be computer part related. Wish me luck. I had issues with my doll falling apart. I'm hoping hot glue will be enough.
