And We're Not Even in Kansas Yet!

Tornado Clouds
Originally uploaded by rexandsharkey.
Well we're on our way to my college reunion in Nevada Missouri! :-) Unfortunately on the way through to our first stop...Garden City, Kansas....we had to go through Holly Colorado, which was hit Wednesday night by a tornado that went straight through town. These were the beautiful but ominous clouds we saw on the way there! Amazing since we left SNOW (yep, not kidding here) this morning!
Here's the devastation in Holly....I have to say, I have never actually been in a tornado area and never want to be. It's truly amazing how it takes one house and not another!

Stitch Night and many flowers to come!

This is a hideous photo of this (as in fuzzy), but I've adjusted the light a bit to try to give you some idea of the colors and textures! I'm on a big tear to get this finished. I got the borders put on and now I can really "see" where I'm going with it.

The column will be filled with flowers which spill over onto the border to the left of it. I have a little spider web at the bottom of the column and of course all of the crazy quilting on the sides will be embellished. We'll see what it looks like from there to see how much more I add. I enjoyed adding some flowers to it last night at our RMCQ group casual stitch night. I have so much more to do tho!

This pattern is from the Fairy Goddess Mothers Group and is their first pattern (which I happen to like the best). Obviously still no where close to ready, but I'm still enjoying it!

Quick baby gift! Quilt and baby block (although I don't like the block)!

I'm totally happy with how this turned out. Not only do I think it's a cute and thoughtful baby gift, but I completed it in 4 hours! Started at 9 this morning and finished it at about 1pm. Good thing because the shower is at 4pm today (nothing like being right on top of something!)

However, that was all planned out. I'd figured out what I wanted to use (the fleece I had here...all basically stuff folks had given to me) and I bought the terry to go on the back. the embroidery thread that I tied the quilt with is also stuff I had around....are you getting the idea I have a lot of stuff?

You have no idea! :-)

Oh, I did a block too...you can click through on the photo to see it on Flickr (ok, I lied, you can't) but it's here!. I'm not as thrilled with it.

Update (Sunday): The gift was well recieved and we had a fantastic time! Missy C really enjoyed it!

Bloggers who embellish ring

For those who don't know, I'm the ringmaster (which sounds very circusy) behind the Bloggers who Embellish ring. Of late (the last 5-6 months) the ring has been hit by spammers, and spammers and spammers. Luckily, I have to hand approve everyone in the group, but it gets exhausting....so I just put it off and approved each weekend. This weekend I've been so busy revamping our Rocky Mountain Crazy Quilters group site (more great links with more description coming soon) that I didn't even check the list....well, we have 13 new fabulous ring members!
Just a note to all who are on the ring...I'm not really nasty about issues getting the ringcode in. Feedback from ring members is that they use the list more than the "forward and back" buttons and I want NEW bloggers (who maybe fantastic embellishers) to be in the ring. I'm always looking for volunteers to go through the ring and help me purge old dead sites and gently help folks get the ring code on tho! :-)
However, I also put together a "support group" at Yahoo (which I just realized there's no link to on the blog ring site -must fix that!)...where folks can go back through old questions and ask new ones. I adore the world of fiber artists and I think the more who can blog their work, the more inspiration I get (all selfish, I assure you!).
Just as an aside, we've had some magnificent new members and just a few to go look at are:
http://friedaquilter.blogspot.com/ (oh, dear heavens, look at her website, it's wonderful!)
http://littleworksofart.blogspot.com/ - love the embroidered silk paintings
http://broider-baroness.blogspot.com/ - I just love historic needlework...going to be a faithful reader of this one!
http://violettecrumble.blogspot.com/ - a younger, mom approach (I do love all the Mom's who blog...it's like an online support group!)
Today, I'm going to make some progress on art/craft...I have to! :-)
