What I'm working on now:
I put together this book cover for my journal. I'm using it to collect thoughts and get organized and I thought having a nice CQ cover would be appropriate. If you've been reading my blog, you might remember the Brazillian piece. Because it is stitched on thermalamb(sp?) I had to beef up the rest of the piece with that (just what would be on the book cover.
Sigh, I only have one seam stitched, but hopefully more today!
Then, I took this picture of my desk a long time ago....I think it's fun to see where people work and this is my "workplace". When I do websites and all other variety of jobs, I sit here....it makes me crazy to have it messy (unless, you're really clean and you think this is messy) but this is what it really looks like when I work.
And last but not least...the cats. Aren't they cute. Brothers and they're so funny when they hang out together!Labels: Crazy quilt, family life, pets
Tacky Craft Tuesday
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
So, today's tacky craft is compliments of Craftzine.com where I quite often find lots of useful and interesting suggestions. However, for this Tuesday I put in a search for "recycled" which seems to be hit or miss in the quality area. So, here's my suggestion for this week:

From Laughing Purple goldfish it's a tiara out of phone wire. Now, I will give you that it's creative and even maybe pretty, but where in life is this necessary? Really?
Now this idea for recycling I thought had style and was very creative (and thus is "anti-tacky"?):

Making jewelry from Starbucks cards. Be sure to go over to Confessions of an OCD Knitter for more pictures and frankly really pretty jewelry.
So, that's my take on the "good and the bad" of recycling....maybe everyone has other suggestions? Oh, and be sure to leave me a comment if you've posted your own Tacky Craft! :)

This is a little odd at first glance (colorful) until you realize those are all colored press on nails. Crazy, eh?
Thanks to r.a.m.o.n.e. on flickr for this one!
*Ahem, this has taken me forever to post on blogger....no idea what's up! Issues in Blogger world?

Illustration Friday and a new project
Friday, June 06, 2008
Call it the "Jessie the cowgirl" or "Velveteen Rabbit" syndrome, but there is nothing sadder and more forgotten than a once loved toy. Last night my daughter almost went to bed without her blanket she's been sleeping with since she was a baby. Funny, because I was on the phone looking at it, thinking "maybe she doesn't need it anymore". When I got off the phone she and my husband were conducting a frantic room by room search...and I have to say, my heart warmed and I was relieved. I think my parent's generation would have thought it was an odd thing to bond with an inanimate object, but frankly I don't see anything more heartwarming than loving something that much. So, thus...."forgotten" was a fairly simple theme for me.
The centerpiece is a brazillian project I finished a while ago and the fabrics are all from Judith Baker Montano's new collection. My fabulous client presented these to me a few months ago and I've been dying to do something wonderful with them. OH! And I got a fun package a few days ago:
Aren't they yummy? YLI silk - I just can't wait to use them! So, I think this little project is all mapped out, maybe I'll get it done really quickly!

I'm Sewing Mama, I'm sewing!
The baptism pillow is in the mail (hooray) and I dug out my daughter's kitty quilt and plan on finishing it....it's actually going faster now that my friend suggested I "TAKE OFF THE HOOP". This may seem silly, but removing the hoop from the monotonous blanket stitching has helped me move along faster and also I can see the picture emerge as I stitch. So, two blocks down, only 4 to go and it's going to be a wall hanging! Hooray!
The greatest news is that my Ribbon tutorial was featured on the "Sew, Mama, Sew! Blog", my friend Claudia encouraged me to submit it and so there's the link! Wave if you found me from the SMS Blog! :)
Ok, well I'm finishing my glass of milk and I'm off to bed. Night all!

Tacky Tuesday and other things that occupy my time right now
Wednesday, June 04, 2008
So, as a result, I kind of missed Tacky Tuesday, so with the Wed post of it, here is my newest selection:
Posted by Spurmarks on flickr, this little gem was added to my Flickr group on my request. I think the dawn of cel phones and Ipods have brought in a whole other venue for tacky crafts, but you have to admit this is particularly tasteless (ha, ha, pun intended)! In other news, I'm DONE with the all white pillow and it goes in the mail today. I'm really happy with the way the edges turned out, but not sorry to see it whisked off in the mail and done!
as for my slack blogging excuse, we moved our garden in our backyard this past weekend (no easy task) and I have a big new web design contract I'm signing this week.
