If I had packed my gun.....

I ran across this photo and thought it was too funny and a bit too close to home! Our French exchange students showed up on Thursday and ironically the kid staying with us was one of two kids who didn't get his bags. This is an improvement over last year where the entire group lost their luggage. I guess I should be thrilled.

I just googled British Airways and luggage and I guess they have the worst record for loosing bags with an amazing 23 out of every 1000 bags lost. I guess the culprit is Heathrow airport which does an amazing job of loosing luggage. Wow! What a cool thing to be known for (ha, ha!).
On top of this, two years in a row, the same courier "Superior Delivery" (which is hysterical I might add) has been responsible for delivering the bags to us.

Last year our kid's luggage sat at the courier's office for 3 days. His message said "I have lots of bags to deliver. You can leave a message, but I won't return your phone call". This year, I asked last night if the bag arrived today whether it would be delivered because of 4th of July. I was assured that they worked 7 days a week. I took down the info and was assured I would hear today. Today we went out and enjoyed a day at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and when I got back, no luggage....I decided to call.

I called and spoke to the immensely rude man at the location and he said "yep, he had the bag", it got here last night. He also said he didn't work today. I offered to drive out and get it and he said "that won't help you, I'm not working today, I won't give you the bag". I told him I was assured by British Airways I would get it and that I would call them and he said "go ahead". He was nasty, rude and I can't imagine what British Airways pays him for this service.

Anyone need a business? I bet delivering luggage for British Airways with good customer service at DIA is a GOLDMINE!

British Airways has apologized, assured me they'll "look into it". I told them I want the bags by tomorrow...think there's any chance I'll get them?

Busy playing!

This is the latest in my real flower scans - the most notable being the one in my header that I use all the time. I'm a big gerbera daisy fan and so I did a scan of this one. I'm playing with a lot of macro cropping. Very fun and very orange!

Other than that, I've been really busy playing the last two days. I have a new Widget Inc. podcasting project I'm working. It really only relates to Denver folks, but I'll let you know when that happens! I do love my professional life these days - it really is like playing more than hard work. Most of the time.

Then I'm still trying to finish the baptism pillow - that's today's project!

Yesterday I went to the Rocky Mountain Bead Society's bead show and it was fabulous!

Look at all my spiffy loot! The smallest, yet most notable is the purchase of delica beads! I've been wanting to get into them for a LONG time! So, we'll see, maybe I'll do something wonderful with them soon!

Last night we went over to a friend's house for a yummy dinner and the kids had a blast! What do you think of my pink power ranger? Fierce, isn't she? (and yes, that was a Project Runway reference!)

1950's, victorian white and Amish/Mennonite inspiration!

The big news this Monday morning is my house is clean! :) If any of you have kids, you know the feeling of NEVER seeming to stay on top of the mess. We cleaned the house yesterday and except for a short tidy this morning I can say that the house looks great!
On top of this, I had a fabulous weekend! It actually started Friday with my being allowed to stitch on this:

If you want to read more about the fabric, I've written about it on my Houseblog, because it is fabulous vintage 1950's fabric! Be sure to check it out if you're in the Colorado area, because it's going to be included in an exhibit down in Colorado Springs. I helped a gal in our neighborhood, who is a textile conservationist do the stitching and it was very educational! It took some time to catch onto how to do the stitches, but hopefully she won't have to take out too many of them. I'm hoping to work on another post soon about her suggestions on preservation, mounting textiles and much more helpful neat stuff!

Then, speaking of the Denver Art Museum, a good friend asked me to tag along with her to see these:

This is an exhibit of Mennonite and Amish quilts. Great stuff! Even better yet, the Denver Art Museum is keeping this as a permanent textiles exhibition area! Yeah DAM!

So, after all of that, I had to get home and get to work on my own stuff. This is going to be a pillow for a really good friends daughter who is going to be baptized in the Mormon church. Her outfit has to be all white, so I figured an all white pillow would be a nice memory of the occasion.

LOVING the lace and I even found a handkerchief with an "M" on it (upside down in the photo) but it's a really huge challenge working in all one color. Obviously it's really variations of creme and white, but it makes an interesting study in textures.

It's been a busy stitching weekend and my next post will be a tutorial on my FAVORITE easy-peasy silk ribbon flower! So, watch for that (hopefully today!)

Sitting at a coffee shop and observations

One of the great things about working at home is that I meet clients in great coffee shops...in this case a wonderful one at the Tattered Cover book store in Denver. Poor me!

I'm sitting here as kids descend from the high school across the street and I'm amazed at how times have changed. Every one of them has a cel phone...taking calls and arranging apointments as they eat their lunches. I wonder if we would have stayed on campus more if all of these technical advances were available to us? The closest we got to this was sneaking to the arcade to play Pac man (there, I'm totally dating myself).

I did want to update everyone that I've just posted some awesome new classes over at Helping Handmade! I've postponed our first class date a bit to get my ducks more in order so that hopefully the classes will run very smoothly.

I'm still hunting for more sewing and crafting teachers tho, so if you are one, or know of any, please let me know.

Update: The day ended with a weird phenomenon called Thundersnow. Some days are just meant for ponderances.

North Denver Mom's Expo!

I have no idea how much of my blog audience is actually in Denver (feel free to actually post a comment you 200 readers a day!) but I'm going to participate in a group show with a fabulous group of women.

The Music Train

Highland Mommies has an entrepreneurial group called "Empressarias" who are having a great show at the D-Note in Arvada! Come shop and explore - including: gift baskets, unique accessories, photography gift certificates, jewlery and more... Enjoy the afternoon with live music, dancing for the kids, make and take crafts and if you're interested in starting your own business - this is a great group of gals I have taken a lot of inspiration from - Including:

December 1st from 3-5 PM at the D-Note in Old Towne Arvada

Anyway, nothing in the show for me is craft orientied...I'm there plugging our web design business. I think I'm handing out internet safety tips - frankly I'm expecting to be upstaged by some very creative Moms.

Next post...back to our regularly scheduled craft and kiddie stuff!

The kids are gone! And my crazy life

You may have noticed a change of header. Well, apparently today is turning out to be the "first day of the rest of my life" (remember that old quote!).

Both of my babies (BABIES I TELL YOU!) went off full time to school today...looking so grown up:
I kept getting them in the sun (the other picture, if you want to see Missy C looking better is here)....but geez. MY BABIES! Ok, I bored poor Roger all day with all this . " I wonder what they're doing now", "they're with strangers", on and on and on.....I must pay him hazard pay for today!

Speaking of which, we have decided to go into business together. Widget has gotten so busy and he was so completely bored with stupid moronic big computer companies who are run by a bunch of blithering idiots (ok, I'll stop now). All I want in the world is stable health insurance, so darn it, we're going out and finding some!

So, he was home and my kids were gone. What a weird weird day.

I'm sure tomorrow will be MUCH more normal! (yeah, right)

Oh, did I mention I have a fiber art show to get ready for and am contributing to a Denver Post Mommy site? (I really really must be committed!)

"Oh, We're Moving On Up, To the TOP!"

Holy cow! I live in a "cool" neighborhood....the house prices are going up, trendy shops are moving in and we happen to have a selection of fantastic restaurants. One of my favorite places is Swimclub (no idea where they got the name) and last night I decided to get out with some other "Moms" and relax and avoid the monotony of being stuck inside with icky dirty snow.

The result was this:
The important part here is that my two glasses of "revello" wine were $13.00 EACH! ARRRRGH? Can you imagine? To be fair, it was a nice glass of wine, but heck! That's more than I've spent on a bottle!

Anyway, we had a fantastic time! Blathered until midnight (good thing I made use of that bar tab, eh?). Lots of quilty crafting this weekend! I promise!
